When did you start loving sneakers?

I would say it started back around the third grade.  The Deion Sanders with the strap with the check on it were the first sneakers that I really ever wanted, and I can’t remember caring much about sneakers before then. So I went to my dad (because my parents were divorced, and I knew my mom wouldn’t buy them), and I asked him to get them for me. We made a deal that if I got straight A’s on my next report card I’d get them. (And being as I had never made a B in my life, at least not until the 7th or 8th grade, I thought that I had hit the jackpot.)

How do you pick out your sneakers?
Well whenever I have money I go to the mall and shop for kicks.  A lot of people may think this would take a while (we have like 6 shoes stores) but it doesn’t at all. I know what I like and what I don’t like, so I don’t pay attention to anything else and I don’t get sidetracked by salespeople. I go in the store, check out the women’s side, then head to the men’s. If there’s nothing I like I’m in and out in 10 minutes.  If I do like something I look at it for a couple minutes, try ‘em on and buy.  I never worry about what clothes I’m gonna rock it with when I buy shoes.  I always tell people, there’s a lot more options in clothes for you to choose from then shoes, so you should buy whatever shoes you want and then get the clothes to match instead of vice versa.

How do you keep them fresh?
Once I decide to wear the shoes I make sure it’s nice outside and proceed. I never walk in the grass or take shortcuts through dirt, etc. and being at the largest campus in Texas, that takes me way out of my way, and sometimes even causes me to be late for class and work, but oh well, lol. When I get home I clean them and either put em back in the box or on my rack.

What do your sneakers say about you?
My kicks say that I’m an individual person who has her own style and doesn’t strive to be just like everyone else. A lot of people say they’re not trying to impress anyone, don’t get me wrong, I don’t do it to impress people, but I do get a great sense of satisfaction when someone comments on my kicks.  I had a sociology class of like 200 people last summer and I sat by the same two people everyday. The last week of school one of them commented on how he had noticed that I wore a different pair of sneakers almost everyday, and then the girl that I sat next to was like, yeah I noticed that too. And so we spent the whole class talking about my shoes.

Who had the greatest impact on you being a sneaker fiend?
I can’t think of a single person but the TV show “Cribs” had some impact, lol.

Do you have a favorite pair of all time?
Wow, that’s hard. I don’t have one single favorite pair but I really like the cool grey 9s, the lime 95s, and of course every color of the 11s.

How do you recognize a FSF?
I recognize them a lot on campus. I’ll be walking around and catch them staring at my kicks and I look at theirs, and they’ve got some heat.

Do (or did) you have role models—other FSF’s or athletes who wore your favorite kicks?

All the females on ISS are my role models, they all have mad heat!!!
